Do You Need To Take an Entrance Exam for Cosmetology School?

Unlike four-year colleges, cosmetology schools in Illinois typically don’t require standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. However, if you haven’t earned a high school diploma or GED, keep in mind that you may be asked to complete an entrance exam. Such exams may include the Ability-to-Benefit (ATB) test or the TABE (Tests of Adult Basic Education).

Why? Because these tests help schools ensure that you’re fully ready to succeed in your training. In the cosmetology field, essential skills such as reading, math skills or analytic skills will be needed both in the classroom settings and in real-life salon environments.

If you’re unsure whether you’ll need to take an entrance exam, don’t worry! We’ll walk you through the process step by step so don’t hesitate to contact our admissions team at any time.
